Mayor Hospitalized After Testing Positive For Coronavirus
Mayor Joseph A. Carfora was hospitalized after suffering from severe coughing spells since his coronavirus diagnosis.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Mayor Joseph A. Carfora was hospitalized this weekend after contracting the coronavirus.
Carfora was informed on Thanksgiving he tested positive for virus. He said he soon experienced flu-like symptoms. This weekend, he began feeling particularly unwell and after informing his physician, he was admitted to Yale New Haven Hospital.
"As you know, I previously tested positive for COVID-19," Carfora said in a statement to Patch Tuesday. "Over the weekend I just wasn’t feeling great. My cough had worsened and it began to become an encumbrance, so I thought it was time to speak with my doctor.

"Out of an abundance of caution, he had me admitted to the hospital where I was under the care of some special individuals dedicated to caring for those with COVID-19."
He said he was treated with medication and got rest that his cough prevented.

Carfora said he continued to work in the hospital, talking regularly to key staff.
He said he was feeling "much better" and will be released from the hospital later Tuesday.
