Obituary: Eleanor Silvestro Ruby, 91, of East Haven

Loved for her laughter, wit, zest for life, and love of family​, she's remembered for her "famous whistle," and crab dinners and picnics.

Eleanor Silvestro Ruby, 91, of East Haven beloved wife of 69 years to the late Robert Charles Ruby passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 19, 2021 at CT. Hospice. Eleanor was born in New Haven on October 20, 1926 daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Greco Silvestro. Mother to Elissa (Joseph) D’Onofrio of Frisco, Texas, and Roberta (Eric) Campbell, of East Haven. Grandmother to Morgan Campbell, Paige (Matthew) Salatto-Pizzorusso, and Robert D’Onofrio. Great-grandmother of Stella Rose and Lilianna Grace Salatto-Pizzorusso. Sister of Lucille Zorena and Ann DeMatteo. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jenny Corniello, Ida Milone, Mary Landino, Sarah Mazzetta, Rose Laurello and brothers Alfred, Joseph, Clement, James and Tony Silvestro.

Prior to her retirement in 1994, Eleanor worked at Robby Len. She was loved for her laughter, witty humor, zest for life, and her love of family. She loved cooking crab sauce and clam chowder for her family which made Christmas Eve dinners and picnics that much more special. She will also be remembered for her famous whistle.

Family and friends are invited to A Mass of Christian Burial WEDNESDAY morning at St Pio of Pietrelcina Parish in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 11:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. THERE WILL BE NO CALLING HOURS. Memorial contributions may be made to CT. Hospice 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford, CT 06405. Arrangements are in care of the PORTO FUNERAL HOME 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80) East Haven.
