EAST HAVEN, CT — You know the song. How many times in a row could you listen?

Radio host AJ will live in a plexiglass box for 24 hours with "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" playing on repeat. It's part of the WPLR's Chaz and AJ Morning Show's annual holiday toy fundraiser.

Beginning Thursday at 9 a.m., and lasting until Friday at 9 a.m., the Chaz & AJ McDermott Chevrolet and Lexus Toy Drive is part of an upcoming weeklong on-air event from Dec. 7 to 11 where listeners are encouraged to drop off donations at Jordan’s Furniture in New Haven.

“I’m hoping my pain will produce some joy for kids who need it,” AJ said in a media release.

He said he expects to make it through the whole 24 hours with The Tokens' song playing over and over.

The tune was chosen by listeners, known as "The Tribe," the release reads, and they are expected to make donations while AJ is in the box.

“This year more than ever we need to step up and help our neighbors,” Chaz said. “One donation can make a big difference.”

The radio hosts are hoping radio show listeners will come to the auto dealership to "Say hi and make a donation in person" or donate online at WPLR.com.
