New Bill Promotes Connecticut Craft Breweries

Rep. Albis of East Haven announced House passage of a bill he authored to push for a designation of "Connecticut Craft Beer."

From Rep. James Albis: Representative James Albis (D-East Haven) announced House passage of a bill he authored to allow a farm brewery permit and push for a designation of "Connecticut Craft Beer," to promote farmers to grow hops and barley and encourage them to brew their own beer or sell to other craft breweries in Connecticut.

“Craft brewing is a growing industry in Connecticut and my proposal would help further grow these entrepreneurial small businesses and create jobs in our state,” Rep. Albis said. “I am pleased that the House voted unanimously on this measure and I look forward to strong support in the Senate as well. This bill will give all craft brewers the opportunity to use Connecticut grown ingredients and advertise their beer as truly home grown.”

House Bill #5928 establishes a farm brewery manufacturer permit, which allows the manufacture and wholesale distribution and sale of beer manufactured at any place or premises located on a farm. The bill also allows, after fulfilling certain ingredient requirements, the labeling and selling of products as “Connecticut Craft Beer.”
