SCSU Athlete From East Haven Earns NE10 Honors

She collected her third straight Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year award.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Senior Destiney Coward of East Haven and freshman Begotty Laroche of Manchester, members of the Southern Connecticut State University women's outdoor track and field team, have been recognized with year-end honors from the NE10 Conference.

Coward collected her third straight Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year award, while Laroche was tabbed as the league's Track Rookie of the Year.

Coward, previously named the USTFCCCA Regional Field Athlete of the Year for the third straight year, finished as the national runner-up in the hammer throw at the NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors in the event. She also won both the hammer throw and the shot put at the NE10's earlier this season. Coward was also All-New England and All-Region in both events and qualified for the NCAA's in the shot put as well.

Laroche won the 200 meter dash at the NE10 Championships this season, and also finished in the top four in three other events. Laroche earned All-New England and All-Region honors in the 200 and the 4x100 relay in both events as well.
