Town, East Haven Rotary To Set Up Trunk-Or-Treat Locations: Mayor

The trunk-or-treat locations in town on Halloween are for "for those families who choose not to go house to house due to COVID-19 concerns."

EAST HAVEN, CT — While specific guidance from the town and health department has not yet come, Mayor Joseph A. Carfora announced on Facebook that the town in collaboration with the East Haven Rotary Club will be hosting trunk-or-treat locations throughout town on Halloween "for those families who choose not to go house to house due to COVID-19 concerns."

“Activities such as distanced trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating and other outdoor activities are welcome to take place,” Carfora said in a social media post.

“Closer to Halloween, our Health Department will issue guidance including tips for families to stay safe while celebrating Halloween," Carfora said. "We will share that information with the residents of East Haven when it is available.”

Based on the many comments on his post, folks are grateful and vow to have their "lights on" to show they'll be giving out candy in safe and some, in creative ways: "I'll be making a candy chute," one person wrote.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn that traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating is "high risk" during the coronavirus pandemic.

The state has yet to issue its own Halloween safety guidance, though it's promised.
