Arson, Shots Fired Investigated In Hamden: Police

Police found a fire that was deliberately set, and several windows shattered by gunfire early Wednesday morning in Hamden, officials said.

HAMDEN, CT — Police evacuated nearby residents after an arson fire was discovered on Park Drive in Hamden early Wednesday morning, according to officials.

Officer Steven Teague was advised by a concerned citizen around 2 a.m. that there was a fire in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Hamden Park Drive, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said officers found a “working fire” in the rear of 20 Hamden Park Drive.

“Officers quickly alerted nearby residents and instructed them to vacate their homes,” Smith wrote in a news release. “Investigation revealed that a shed, located in the rear of the property, was deliberately set on fire. In addition, several windows were shattered by gunfire.”

Hamden firefighters responded to extinguished the fire.

The Hamden Fire Marshal’s Office, along with the Connecticut State Fire Marshal’s Office are also conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, according to Smith.
