Bicyclist Struck By Vehicle, Driver Leaves Scene: Hamden Police
A driver was arrested after police say they left the scene after hitting a bicyclist in Hamden. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven resident is accused of hitting a bicyclist and leaving the scene Saturday in Hamden, according to police. At around 4:30 p.m. May 2, Hamden police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Goodrich Street on the report of a “pedestrian struck,” according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Police found that a 25-year-old New Haven resident was riding his bicycle, southbound, on the Farmington Canal Trail and was struck by a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Goodrich Street, according to Smith. The vehicle fled from the scene.
The victim sustained injuries to his back and ribs, Smith said. He was treated at the scene by Hamden Fire Rescue personnel and taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Officer Kyle Sampognaro soon found the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Daphney Townsend, that was parked at a Hamden residence, according to Smith. Townsend, 33, of Dewitt Street in New Haven, was charged with evading responsibility and failure to grant right of way. Townsend is scheduled to appear in court at a later date and time.
