HAMDEN, CT — The popular semi-annual bulk trash pickup program will return to Hamden in September, according to a joint news release from Mayor Curt Balzano Leng, Public Works Director Craig Cesare and the Hamden Legislative Council.
The second bulk trash collection will take place in April 2022.
Hamden residents can put bulk trash curbside in front of their homes anytime between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30. Acceptable items will be picked up by Hamden’s trash hauler throughout the entire month of September. No phone calls or appointments are necessary.

Residents are urged to have bulk at the curb by or before their last regular refuse pickup day for the month of September.
Residents are reminded to place bulk trash away from town-issued trash and recycling carts and do not place any regular refuse with the bulk trash.

“Residents count on bulk-trash collection, and I am very pleased we’ve returned this service to Hamden,” Leng said. “I thank the Legislative Council for their support of the program, Hamden Public Works for working with our trash hauler, and to the Hamden residents who expressed their support in returning the service to our budget.”
The bulk trash pickup program was eliminated from last year’s budget by the Legislative Council in an effort to find savings in a budget that raised the town’s property taxes by 6.4 percent. Leng vetoed the budget, but the council voted to override the veto.
