Burglar Assaulted K-9, Caused $5K Damage To CVS: Hamden Police

The man is accused of punching K-9 Sar several times in the head and causing $5,000 worth of damage to CVS during a burglary, police said.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man is accused of causing $5,000 worth of damage to CVS and assaulting a K-9 during a burglary early Monday morning, according to police.

Police responded to CVS at 2045 Dixwell Ave. in Hamden around 5:30 a.m. on the report of suspicious activity, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said arriving officers found extensive damage to the front of the store and Khaleb Cyril was seen inside. When officers approached him, Cyril dove to the ground and punched K-9 Sar, who was on a leash, three times in the head, according to Smith.

Cyril was promptly arrested, Smith said.

Police found that Cyril damaged four panels, a door tracking device and two sliding glass doors, according to Smith.

The damage was estimated at $5,000, Smith said.

Cyril, 23, of Oberlin Road, was charged with first-degree burglary, reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, cruelty to animals and interfering with a police officer. He is scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court at a later date, according to Smith.
