Coronavirus Hamden: Nail, Hair Salons & More Close

The local health district has ordered that all cosmetology and tattoo businesses in town close to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

HAMDEN, CT — The Quinnipiack Valley Health District has ordered that all cosmetology and tattoo businesses operating in Hamden, North Haven, Woodbridge and Bethany close until further notice as of 8 p.m. on March 18. The action is being taken to help prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

“Cosmetology” includes establishments providing haircuts and hair styling, manicures and pedicures, skin care treatments, eye lash and eyebrow procedures and massage therapy.

Title K, Section V.(c) of the Environmental Health Regulations of the Quinnipiack Valley Health District states in part:

“The Director of Health may suspend, without warning, prior notice or hearing, any Certificate of Compliance to operate a barbershop, hairdressing, cosmetology or massage therapy establishment if the operation constitutes an imminent hazard to public health. An imminent health hazard shall include, but is not limited to, an ongoing outbreak of an infectious, pathogenic or toxic agent capable of being transmitted to consumers.”
