HAMDEN, CT — A North Haven man has died after a head-on crash early Friday morning in Hamden, according to police.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. in the area of 2200 Whitney Avenue, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

A preliminary investigation found that a vehicle driven by James McKenna, 55, of North Haven, was traveling south on Whitney Avenue, according to Smith. A vehicle that was being driven by Taya Petteway-Campbell, 22, of Hamden, was traveling north on Whitney Avenue.

Smith said Campbell’s vehicle crossed the double yellow center markings and crashed head-on into McKenna’s vehicle.

McKenna was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he died from his injuries, according to Smith.

Petteway-Campbell was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries, Smith said.
