Emaciated Dog Abandoned At Side Of Road: Hamden Police

Police said a hiker saw the driver of a blue pickup truck abandon the dog, an older female beagle, at the side of the road and drive away.

HAMDEN, CT — A dog was abandoned at the side of a road Tuesday morning in Hamden, according to police.

Police responded to Downs Road around 8:30 a.m. after a hiker reported finding an abandoned dog, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

The hiker exited a nearby trail and saw the driver of a “blue pickup truck, with a darker gate affixed to the truck” abandon the dog at the side of the road and drive away, Smith said.

The dog, an older female beagle, has a “two-inch mass” behind her right shoulder blade, according to Smith.

Smith said the beagle has extremely long nails and is emaciated.
