‘Enormous Amount Of Damage’ Reported In Hamden
Hamden continues to clean up from a powerful storm that caused significant damage in several areas of town.

HAMDEN, CT — The cleanup continued Friday after Hamden was hit hard by a severe storm that caused major damage throughout town. More than 3,400 United Illuminating customers in Hamden were without power as of 3 p.m.
Hamden was likely hit with a “tornado or similar severe event and there is an enormous amount of damage in many areas of our community,” Hamden Mayor Curt Leng wrote in a post on Facebook on Thursday night.
A crew from the Hamden Public Works Department reported seeing a tornado in front of them on Shepard Avenue, according to WTNH News 8.

In an update Friday morning, Hamden police advised motorists of the following road closures due to storm-related damage:
Evergreen Avenue is CLOSED at Colonial Drive.

Harding Street is CLOSED.
Shepard Avenue is CLOSED between Sherman Avenue and Bear Path Road.
Shepard Avenue is CLOSED between the 2200 block and Whitney Avenue.
West Shepard Avenue is CLOSED between Paradise Avenue and the Laurel View C.C.
