Environmental and Land Use Dispute Resolution Symposium

The symposium will focus on finding solid ground for environmental and land use dispute resolution in Connecticut.

From QU: Quinnipiac University’s Center on Dispute Resolution and the Connecticut Bar Foundation will host the 10th John A. Speziale Alternative Dispute Resolution Symposium, “Finding Solid Ground: Environmental and Land Use Dispute Resolution in Connecticut,” on Friday, March 17from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Quinnipiac's School of Law on the North Haven Campus.

This symposium will highlight creative and effective conflict resolution. The audience will include lawyers, judges, developers, public officials, environmental activists, property owners, land planners, lenders, design professionals and consultants.

Lawrence Susskind, a city planner, mediator and MIT professor, will serve as the keynote speaker. Susskind is one of the most experienced public and environmental dispute mediators in the country and is a leading figure in the dispute resolution field. He has mediated more than 50 complex disputes related to the siting of controversial facilities, the formulation and implementation of development plans and projects, and conflicts among racial and ethnic groups.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for any member of the public to interact in large and small group discussions with land use and environmental experts who want to prevent conflicts from happening in the first place, solve them when they occur and brainstorm better ways to do address these conflicts going forward,” said Charles A. Pillsbury, professor of law at Quinnipiac, who is co-chairing the symposium with attorney Dwight H. Merriam of Robinson+Cole, LLP.
