Giving Back: Help a Young Hamden Man in Battling Multiple Medical Problems

Jordan Jacques was diagnosed with leukemia in 1995 at age three. Eighteen years later, he's still battling serious medical problems and his family could use your help.

In his 21 years, Hamden resident Jordan Jacques has been through a lot, to say the least.

Jordan is the son of former Hamden Councilman Paul Jacques and Leslie Miller, and the brother of his twin sister Taylor. In 1995, at age three, he was diagnosed with leukemia. He was treated with a bone marrow transplant the next year and for the next 14 years, he was cancer free but was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease.

Then in 2010, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, with a tumor that covered his right hip, wrapped around his back and extended between his kidneys. After extensive treatment in Boston, he was able to return to Hamden the next year, attend his senior prom and graduate from Hamden High School.

Since then, he's been treated for lung cancer in both lungs. And now, he's battling a painful bone infection and a dislocation of his surgically replaced hip. He won't be operated on for that problem until he gets stronger.

His illness has taken a massive toll on both the young man and his family, who struggle to keep up with the bills while trying to be there to support him.

Friends of Jordan Jacque's family have started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for those needs.

"Funds raised through GoFundMe are not for Christmas presents or trips to Disney," it says on the fundraising page. "Leslie's sick and vacation time is dwindling quickly and Taylor is working hard to contribute, but more money is needed. Funds are requested to pay for many unreimbursable medical expenses and for household expenses that accumulate while Leslie takes care of Jordan, both in Boston and at home."

So far the campaign has raised $3,245 but more is needed.
