The HEDC is an independent, 501(c)(4) non-profit corporation, which focuses on developing the tax base in communities in the Greater New Haven area. The HEDC proudly identifies itself as “an advocate for business,” with a special focus on the development of contaminated or underperforming properties. One of its most important projects was the development of the Hamden Business Incubator, now known as BOROUGH496, at the corner of Morse and Newhall Streets in Hamden. That project was recently sold to the Connecticut Center for Arts and Technology, who will soon open the ConnCORP Community Economic Impact Lab at that location.

The Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce has a 95-year history of supporting the business community in Hamden and surrounding communities. The Chamber works to promote businesses, to lobby on their behalf on the town and state levels. Through its various committees, the Chamber brings businesses together, creating a synergy that helps each business grow and thrive.

“Having the Economic Development Corporation in our offices,” said Nancy Dudchik, Chamber President, “is an opportunity for further collaboration. We and the HEDC have a similar purpose and goal; with them here, our ability to work together can only get better.” Dale Kroop, the HEDC director, agreed. “The Chamber and ourselves have cooperated on many projects; we were looking for a new address, after BOROUGH496 was sold, and the Chamber was an obvious choice.” This will create many new opportunities for business development in Hamden.
