HAMDEN, CT — A new animated fantasy-adventure comedy show making its debut on the Disney Channel later this week was created by a Hamden native.

The Hartford Courant reports Dana Terrace, 29, a 2009 graduate of the Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School in New Haven, is the creator and executive producer of “The Owl House,” which premieres Jan. 10 at 8:45 p.m. on the Disney Channel. It will also be available on the DisneyNow app.

The show follows Luz, “a self-assured teenage human girl, accidentally stumbles upon a portal to a magical new world where she befriends a rebellious witch, Eda, and an adorably tiny warrior, King,” according to its description on YouTube. “Despite not having magical abilities, Luz pursues her dream of becoming a witch by serving as Eda's apprentice at the Owl House and ultimately finds a new family in an unlikely setting.”

Terrace told the Courant she made a pitch for the show “out of spite” after she showed it to a writing partner who said “That’s a horrible idea. No one will ever watch that.”

The first season of “The Owl House” has 19 episodes and Disney has already ordered a second season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
