Hamden Obituaries: Mary Waldron, 103
She was well known for her kindness, humor and intellect and won numerous awards for crocheting Irish lace, knitting and baking.

Mary Waldron, 103, of Hamden, wife of the late David F. Waldron, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 18, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on Sept. 12, 1910 in the Village of Killeenagher, Town of Ballyhaunis in County Mayo Ireland. Her parents were Patrick and Ellen Moran.
Mary was educated in Ireland and immigrated to the United States at the age of 17. She worked for the Whitney Blake Co. and the Bradlee’s Company, from which she retired.
She was a member of the Irish American Community Center and the New Haven Gaelic Football & Hurling Club. She was well known for her kindness, humor and intellect. She won numerous awards for crocheting Irish lace, knitting and baking. In 1988 she was honored as the Irish Woman of the Year by the Irish community.
She has been acknowledged by the President of the United States and the President of Ireland upon her reaching the milestone of 100 and for the subsequent milestones beyond 100. She was a parishioner at St. Stephen’s Church.
Mary traveled extensively throughout the United States and made several enjoyable trips back to Ireland accompanied by some of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her greatest accomplishments were her devotion to faith, family and friends.
Mary was the loving mother of eight children. She is survived by William Waldron (Janet) of North Haven; Edward Waldron (Mary) of Tomar, Portugal; George Waldron of Hamden; James Waldron of Hamden; Mark Waldron of Escondido, CA; daughter Eileen Waldron of East Haven and by her cherished grandchildren , great grandchildren and a great, great grandson. She was predeceased by sons David Waldron (Mary Rose) of New Haven and John Waldron (Rosemary) of Essex, CT and her only sibling Delia Moran (John) O’Brien of New Haven.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, 400 Ridge Rd. in Hamden. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. Friends may call at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Friday, Dec. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m.
