
Raymond R. LaTerza, 88, of Hamden Hills Drive, Hamden, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Yale New Haven Hospital, St Raphael Campus surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Lorraine Vece LaTerza.
Ray was born in New Haven on July 7, 1925, a son of the late Dominick and Isabella "Bella" Signore LaTerza and resided in Hamden for most of his life. He was an insurance adjuster for more than 50 years, and had worked for CNA Insurance Co. of Hartford and Farmington for 20 years until retiring in 1995.
Ray was a proud WWII Marine Corp Veteran and fought in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Carmel Council and American Legion Post 88 of Hamden, and was a sports enthusiast and avid golfer.
Ray is also survived by his three daughters, Kathleen (Leonard) Weisgable of Oxford, Patricia LaTerza and Laurie (Todd Rake) LaTerza of Guilford, and two grandchildren, Matthew Weisgable and Sofia Rake, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Steven LaTerza.
The LaTerza family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 930 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Burial with military honors will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden.
