Hamden Obituaries: Victoria Boron Jarowey, 101

On Nov. 10, 2013, at the age of 101, Victoria Boron Jarowey died peacefully at the home of her son in Waban, MA. She was a long time resident of Hamden, CT.

Born in Chicopee, MA in 1912 and raised in South Deerfield, Victoria moved on her own to New Haven at age 14 and attended Hillhouse High School. She graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1932 and began work in New Haven as a dental hygienist.

During World War II, she served as a civilian employee of the Army Air Force at Bradley Field in Windsor Locks. She returned to New Haven and, in 1961, helped to create the Dental Assistant Program at the Eli Whitney Technical School in Hamden. She taught there until her retirement in 1979.

An avid golfer, Victoria was a long-time member of Race Brook Country Club with her husband, Walter Jarowey. She was active in local politics and served on several Boards of the Connecticut State Employees Association and various committees of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

She is survived by her son Peter Jarowey and daughter-in-law Constance Jarowey of Waban, MA; four grandchildren, Peter Jarowey III, Alexander Jarowey, Victoria Jarowey and Elizabeth Jarowey; her sisters Helen Cady of South Deerfield, MA, and Patricia Zach of Wilmington, VT; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband.

Friends are invited to Wrisley Funeral Home, South Deerfield, MA on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. for visitation and 11 a.m. for a funeral service. A private burial will follow.
