Hamden Obituaries: Wayne O. Porter, 67

He was a US Army Veteran and had served in the Vietnam War.




Wayne O. Porter, 67 of Hamden, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17 at the Veterans Hospital in West Haven. 

Wayne was born in Waterbury on May 8,1946, son of the late Maxwell H. and Marion I. (Olsen) Porter. He was raised in Watertown and had lived there for many years before moving to Hamden.

Wayne graduated from Watertown High School in 1964 and graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Agriculture. He was a US Army Veteran and had served in the Vietnam War. He was Vice President of Operations at Pik Kwik Stores for 20 years and President of Porter’s Meat Market until 1990. He was also employed at Winkle Bus Co. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 5157. 

He is survived by a son, Jeffrey O. Porter and Sonedara Descault of Goshen, his longtime companion Nancy Memoli of Hamden, four brothers: David W. Porter and his wife Leslie of Nobleboro, ME, Jon T. Porter and his wife Carol of Tolland, Robert M. Porter and his wife Beth of Watertown and James H. Porter and his wife Diane of Watertown, three grandchildren, Eliza, Benjamin, & Harrison Porter, and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown. Burial with full military honors will follow in the States Veteran Cemetery in Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5 - 7 p.m.
