Hamden Police Charge New Haven Man in Scrap Metal Theft

A Hamden Police officer allegedly found the man in the act.

A New Haven man is facing burglary and larceny charges after a Hamden Police officer caught him allegedly stealing scrap metal.

On Friday at about 11:30 a.m. Officer Joseph Liguori saw a suspicious motor vehicle parked near an unoccupied storage facility on Haig Street, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. The vehicle, a pick-up truck, was loaded with scrap metal, he said. 

While checking the building, Liguori found Terry Blumell, 54, of 41 Woodland Street, New Haven, "throwing scrap metal out of a missing garage door panel," Smith said.

"Blumell was ordered out of the building and subsequently placed under arrest," he said.

Blumell was charged with third-degree burglary and criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Blumell posted $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 6.
