Hamden Police Looking for Drunk Drivers This Weekend

Checkpoints will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday in a variety of locations, according to police.

'Tis the season to be merry — but not too merry.

The Hamden Police Department will be conducting sobriety checkpoints during the month of December, according to Hamden Police Sgt. Anthony Diaz..

The enforcement checkpoints will take place at various locations, he said, including Dixwell Avenue, Whitney Avenue, Skiff Street, Hamden Hills Drive and Mix Avenue.

The checkpoints will be conducted on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 19 to the 21st, he said.

The program is funded by the Connecticut Department of Transportation, Diaz said.

"The Hamden Police Department’s goal is to spread public awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving," he said, "along with making the streets of Hamden and surrounding communities safer by arresting those individuals who are driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs."
