Hamden Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoints
With holiday parties and celebrating in full swing, the Hamden Police Department wants to make sure it doesn't bring with it drunk drivers.
'Tis the season to be jolly...but not too jolly, especially if it involves alcohol.
The Hamden Police Department will be conducting sobriety checkpoints throughout the month of December, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.
"These enforcement activities, which will take place at various locations, including Dixwell Avenue, Whitney Avenue, Skiff Street and Mix Avenue, will be conducted on Dec. 5 and 6," Smith said in a release Wednesday.
There were be other dates as well, he said, that will be announced later.
The money for the program comes from the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
"The Hamden Police Department’s goal is to spread public awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving," Smith said, "along with making the streets of Hamden and surrounding communities safer by arresting those individuals who are driving while intoxicated."
