HAMDEN, CT — Taniyah Thompson scored a game-high 31 points to help lead the Hamden girls’ basketball team to its first Southern Connecticut Conference title with a 65-49 victory over East Haven Thursday night at Hamden High School. Thompson earned Most Valuable Player honors for the Green Dragons, who improved to 21-2 with the win. Hamden took control of the game with a 12-0 run to end the third quarter, according to GameTimeCT.com.
Hamden coach Amanda Forcucci told Mike Madera of GameTimeCT that winning the SCC title has been something her players have talked about since they were freshmen.
Asya Brandon added 11 points for Hamden, while Sarah Streete finished with 10. Makenzie Helms led East Haven (18-5) with 18 points.
