Heat Advisory In Place Until Wednesday, Many Still Without Power

HAMDEN, CT – A heat advisory is in effect for much of the area from Monday through 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Heat and humidity over the next few days will make it feel like it is between 95 and 99 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the heat advisory.
Seniors and those with chronic health issues or mental health conditions are at an increased risk during heat advisories, and are encouraged to use air conditioning to stay cool.

Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures, the National Weather Service warned. This is cause for concern, as many towns in the area are still without power following last week's tropical storm.
Residents are advised to check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors during this time.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends taking frequent breaks in shaded areas or air conditioned rooms.
