House of Heroes Plans Multiple Memorial Day Weekend Events

New Office Ribbon Cutting with Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce on May 27; Veterans Project on Saturday, Facebook Live Fundraiser Sunday

House of Heroes Connecticut, the Hamden-based non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of Connecticut veterans in need with one-day home repairs, will host a series of special events on Memorial Day Weekend, including a Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting for its first-ever business office, a veteran service project for a Shelton veteran and the organization’s first-ever Facebook Live Holiday Fundraiser.

The series of events, sponsored by House of Heroes Connecticut Partners People’s United Bank, Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company and Mikro Depot, will include:

Grand Opening/Ribbon-Cutting, Thursday, May 27, 4 p.m.: A ribbon-cutting and Grand Opening Celebration (outdoor tent) at the organization’s first-ever business office located at 3342 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, next door to Mikro Depot. A ceremonial ribbon cutting will take place at 4 p.m. with the Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce. Guests are invited to stay from 4-7 p.m. for live music; giveaways; a Mikro Depot food truck offering a signature HOHCT Burger with proceeds benefitting House of Heroes; and a Touch-a-Truck family event next door in the Mount Carmel Congressional Church parking lot at 3284 Whitney Avenue, across Sherman Avenue, featuring a Sikorsky fire truck and additional trucks and first responder vehicles.

Veteran Service Project, Saturday, May 29, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: A House of Heroes project honoring the late Shelton resident Stephen Ford, a U.S. Army veteran and Superintendent of Operations at Sikorsky Memorial Airport who passed away in 2016. The project will assist Ford’s widow, Robbin Wyatt Ford.

Facebook Live Holiday Fundraiser, Sunday, May 30, 12-4 p.m.: House of Heroes’ first-ever Facebook Live event will take place from 12-4 p.m. on Facebook @houseofheroesct. The event is a grass-roots tribute to the House of Heroes mission fashioned in the spirit of the popular Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethons of yore, which were so instrumental in raising awareness and critical funding. The event will feature HOHCT videos, interviews with veterans and sponsors, a tribute to late HOHCT co-founder Bill May, music, and introduction of the House of Heroes Connecticut on-line Honor Wall, which will afford donors the chance to honor loved ones who served on the HOHCT website (www.hohct.org).
