HAMDEN, CT — A blood drive held in honor of a young Hamden woman who found her “miracle match” for a recent liver transplant was held Friday to help save more lives. The blood drive, which was held at St. Rita’s Church in Hamden, raised 28 pints of blood and every pint has the potential t save three lives, according to the “Miracle for Maddie,” Facebook page.

FOX 61 reports the “Miracle for Maddie” Facebook page was created for Madison Ricci, 20, by her mother, to find a suitable donor for a liver transplant due to a life-threatening condition. A stranger, 23-year-old Jaelin Highsmith, of Meriden, answered the call and was a match and the liver transplant took place last Dec. 11, according to FOX 61.

Ricci and Highsmith decided to hold the blood drive as a way to give back because they both received a lot of blood transfusions while they were in the hospital, according to WTNH News 8.
