Man Killed In Hamden Fire: Officials

A man and two family pets died in a fire at a Hamden home on Tuesday night. Two people were hospitalized after escaping the fire.

HAMDEN, CT — A man was killed in a fire at a home Tuesday night in Hamden, according to fire officials.

Two people safely evacuated the home and were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for smoke inhalation. Two family pets also died in the fire, according to Hamden Fire Marshal Brian Dolan.

Firefighters responded to a fire at 775 Hill St. that was called in by several neighbors around 10:15 p.m. Assistant Chief Charles Lubowicki reported heavy fire in the breezeway and garage that was spreading into the house.

One resident evacuated the home through a bedroom window. The other resident left through the front door and notified firefighters that another person was still inside the house, according to Dolan.

Dolan said rescued crews began an “aggressive interior search” of the home while other crews worked to extinguish the fire.

Frank Mangiero, 59, was found dead in the living room, according to Dolan.

The other two residents were treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital for smoke inhalation and released on Wednesday morning, according to Dolan.

The Hamden Fire Marshal’s Office, Hamden Police Department, and Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit were called to the scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.

Dolan said the breezeway between the garage and the home was the primary area of focus. The investigation was continuing as of Wednesday morning, according to Dolan.
