Man Shot While Playing Basketball At Park In Hamden: Police
The park was filled with people at the time of the shooting, according to police.
HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man was shot while playing basketball at Villano Park in Hamden on Saturday night, according to police.
Police responded to Villano Park, 260 Mill Rock Rd., around 9:20 p.m. on the report of shots fired, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Police found that a 21-year-old New Haven resident was shot and was being treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital after he was taken there by a friend, according to Smith.

Smith said the victim was playing basketball when he heard a single gunshot and “immediately started bleeding from his head.” His injuries were described as “non-life threatening,” according to Smith.
“Villano Park was ‘filled with people playing and onlookers,’” Smith wrote in a news release. “After hearing the gunshot, the park ‘emptied out, with people running and fleeing in fear for their lives.’”
