Obituary: Alicia Mary Butler, 59, of Hamden
Alicia, a dedicated and devoted teacher, worked as a school psychologist for Cromwell Public Schools and at The Foundation School in Orange.

HAMDEN, CT - (From Sisk Brothers Funeral Home) Alicia Mary Butler, 59, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday morning, June 24, 2021.
She was the loving partner of John McDermott and the daughter of Nancy Butler of Bristol.
Alicia was born and raised in Bristol, a graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School.
A lifelong educator, she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southern Connecticut State University and Fairfield University, respectively.
Alicia lived a life full of love, compassion, meaning and purpose.
In her career as a teacher and school psychologist in the Cromwell Public Schools and at The Foundation School in Orange, she was a dedicated, devoted champion of special needs children.
In addition to her love of family, friends and her students, she had a soft spot for abandoned/neglected animals, and volunteered at The Greater New Haven Cat Project.
She enjoyed her “country cottage” Hamden home, relaxing in the verdant garden yard cultivated over time with her godmother, Janie McCabe Brett.
Besides her partner and mother, she leaves her siblings, Moira Butler (David Cross) of Corpus Christi, TX, Brenda Lavoie (Joseph) of Gloucester, MA, and Patrick Butler of Oklahoma City, OK; a nephew, Joseph Lavoie (Jessica) of Peabody, MA, a niece, Claire Desroches (Jarod) of Melrose, MA; great niece and nephew Nora and Leo Lavoie; and John’s grandsons Nicholas and Ryan Krompegal of Bristol. She was predeceased by her father, Bill Butler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 2 at 10:00 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish St. Rita Catholic Church, 1620 Whitney Avenue, Hamden.
Friends and loved ones are welcomed to meet the family directly after the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the .Alicia M. Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Main Street Community Foundation, P.O. Box 2702, Bristol, CT 06011-2702.
