Obituary: Barbara DeNicola, 88; Former Hamden Mayor

Barbara served as Mayor of Hamden from 1997 to 1999 and was a longtime educator. She most enjoyed being with her devoted family.

HAMDEN, CT — (From Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home): Barbara DeNicola, 88, of Hamden, died May 18 at The Linden of Woodbridge after a brief illness. Born in New Haven, daughter of the late Mayor John (Anna Krenn) DeNicola Sr., she resided in Hamden all her life.

She was a graduate of UCONN with a teacher’s degree and taught in Hamden, East Haven, Greenwich, Durham, and Middlefield school systems, as well as Japan, Turkey and France Military schools. She served as Mayor of Hamden from 1997 to 1999, and was very active in Hamden Republican politics for many years.

She most enjoyed being with her devoted family.

She is survived by a brother Richard (Lorraine) DeNicola of Hamden, nieces and nephews; John (Susan), David (Lynette), Lisa (Laura), Lori, Joseph (Debra), Anthony (Vickie) all DeNicola's, Angela (Sam) Player, seven grand-nieces and nephews, and a great grand-niece. She was predeceased by a brother Mayor John P. DeNicola Jr., and his wife Lorraine.

Friends are invited to go directly to Blessed Sacrament (CBoL) Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in Beaverdale. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave. in Hamden. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann's Food Pantry, 322 Circular Ave. Hamden, CT 06514.
