Obituary: Douglas Washington Sr., 81, Of Hamden
Douglas worked as a Track Laborer at Amtrak for 16 years and as a lead Custodian for Hamden Public Schools for more than 35 years.

HAMDEN, CT — (From Howard K. Hill Funeral Services): On March 25, 2021, Douglas Washington Sr., of Hamden, passed away at the age of 81. Douglas was born on October 26, 1939 in Houston County, Perry, GA. to the late Jimmy Thomas and Fannie Washington. In the 1960’s, he settled in New Haven, CT. On May 8, 1974, he married Nettie Jewel Hill and they raised three beautiful children.
Douglas worked as a Track Laborer at Amtrak for 16 years and as a lead Custodian for Hamden Public Schools for over 35 years. He enjoyed cooking, attending to church services, spending time with his wife and children, and taking family vacations.
Douglas is survived by his sister, Dorothy (Gary) Drummond of Hampton, Virginia; three children, Kimberly Washington, Curtis (Norma) Hill, and Douglas Tyrone (Ashley) Washington; sister-in laws, Carol Warren, Neil Williams; grandchildren, Anthony Mongillo, Ashley M. Vagnini, Crystal Jewel Hill, Curtis Hill Jr.; and several extend family members. Douglas was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Jewel Washington; son, Michael Washington; sister, Lulu Mae King; and brothers, Benny Code, Milton Code, and Daniel Code.
