Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By Vehicle In Hamden: Police

The pedestrian was hit by a vehicle while he was crossing the street Thursday night in Hamden, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A pedestrian died after being hit by a car while crossing the street Thursday night in Hamden, police said in an update Friday morning.

The victim has been identified as Calvin Washington, 65, of Hamden, according to police Capt. Ronald Smith.

Police responded to the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Saint James Street around 6 p.m. on the report of an accident. Police found that Washington was crossing Dixwell Avenue from the east side of the road when he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling north on Dixwell Avenue, according to Smith.

The vehicle was being driven by a 38-year-old Middletown resident, Smith said.

Hamden Fire Rescue personnel treated Washington at the scene for life-threatening injuries. Washington was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he later died, according to Smith.

Dixwell Avenue was closed for nearly seven hours as police investigated, Smith said.
