Police Find Shooting Self-Inflicted

A man told police he had been shot by another person Monday night, but police later determined that he had shot himself.

A man who first told police he had been shot by another person apparently fired the shot himself, according to police.

Hamden Police got a report of a shooting at the corner of Concord and Garden streets Monday night at about 9:30 p.m., according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

When officers got there, they found Bobby McCrea, 23, whose address wasn't available, with a gunshot wound to the leg, Smith said.

"Officers were first told by McCrea and his friends that an individual operating a specific motor vehicle was responsible for the shooting," Smith said in a release Friday. "After a thorough investigation, officers learned that McCrea’s wound was self-inflicted. Officers located and seized the firearm that was used."

McCrea was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment, Smith said. Det. Mark Consorte is continuing the investigation.
