Preview of ‘Sounds of Broadway’ with Silk’n Sounds

Quinnipiac University Symphonic Orchestra to perform 'Sounds of Broadway' with Silk'n Sounds

Nov. 20 at Thornton Wilder Hall

HAMDEN, CT – The Quinnipiac University Symphonic Orchestra and Silk’n Sounds, a women’s a cappella group, will perform a free concert, “Sounds of Broadway,” at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Thornton Wilder Hall, Miller Complex, 2901 Dixwell Ave. This concert is open to the public.

The concert will feature selections from a range of Broadway musicals, including “Mamma Mia,” “West Side Story,” “Chess,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Girl Crazy” and “Lady Be Good.”

“Quinnipiac University’s music program is excited about this collaboration between its orchestral ensemble and Silk’n Sounds,” said George Sprengelmeyer, director of music and chair of visual and performing arts at Quinnipiac. “It promises to be a fun and dynamic event.”

Kia Lampe-Onnerud, director of Silk’n Sounds, said “Silk’n Sounds is looking forward to sharing the stage with the Quinnipiac orchestra for an evening of harmony, with a loving tribute to Broadway.”

The Quinnipiac Symphonic Orchestra performs a range of classical and contemporary musical styles under the direction of Vesna Mehinovic, adjunct professor in the department of visual and performing arts.

Silk'n Sounds is a chapter of Harmony, Inc., an international organization of female a cappella singers. The group specializes in barbershop, jazz harmony and rhythmic selections from many different eras that appeal to a wide range of audiences.
