Quinnipiac Student Cut Roommate’s Neck With Knife: Hamden Police
The student was assaulted while he was sleeping. Police said the fight stemmed from an argument they had about a light in their room.
HAMDEN, CT — A Quinnipiac University student cut his roommate in the neck with a knife during a fight in their dorm room early Friday morning in Hamden, according to police.
Police responded to Quinnipiac University, 275 Mount Carmel Ave., around 3:10 a.m. on the report of a fight between two roommates.
Officer Paul Calamita found a 20-year-old student with a “large laceration” on his neck, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

The student told police that while he was sleeping, his roommate “jumped on top of him” and began punching him in the face. His roommate “cut his throat” with a knife during the assault, Smith said.
Calamita, with the assistance of Quinnipiac University Public Safety, was able to negotiate with the roommate and take possession of the knife, according to Smith.

The fight stemmed from an argument they had about a light in their room, Smith said.
Both students were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment.
The victim has since been released from the hospital, according to Don DiStefano, interim chief of Quinnipiac University Public Safety.
The student accused of attacking his roommate has been suspended from the university pending the outcome of the investigation and student conduct meeting, DiStefano said in an update on Friday night.
“We appreciate the quick response of the Hamden Police, and our public safety officers and student affairs staff are committed to ensuring a safe campus environment for our students,” DiStefano said.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
