​Quinnipiac Students Receive Academic, Leadership Awards at Graduation

The deans of each school and the College of Arts and Sciences presented the awards based on the students' academic achievements.

From Quinnipiac University: Quinnipiac University honored some of its top students recently at its annual Undergraduate Awards Ceremony.


The deans of each professional school and the College of Arts and Sciences presented the awards based on the students’ academic achievements as well as their accomplishments outside of the classroom, said Monique Drucker, vice president and dean of students.

The School of Business presented awards to the following students: Jennifer Jasterzbski of Montville, New Jersey, Outstanding Achievement by a Freshman, Maria Spano of Brookside, New Jersey, Outstanding Achievement by a Sophomore and Jessica S. Maricich of Lansing, Illinois, Outstanding Achievement by a Junior.

The School of Communications presented awards to the following students: Bethany M. Fernandes of Acushnet, Massachusetts, Outstanding Achievement by a Freshman, Kaitlyn M. Masler of Horsehead, New York, Outstanding Achievement by a Sophomore and Shelby A. Petrie of Johns Creek, Georgia, Outstanding Achievement by a Junior.

The School of Engineering presented awards to the following students: Alexandra Sazhin of New Fairfield, Outstanding Achievement by a Freshman, Charles Y. Zhu of Cheshire, Outstanding Achievement by a Sophomore and Raymond J. Nyhuis of Ringwood, New Jersey, Outstanding Achievement by a Junior.

The School of Health Sciences presented awards to the following students: Jacqueline P. Berolini of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Outstanding Achievement by a Freshman, Kipp E. Hopper of Forked River, New Jersey, Outstanding Achievement by a Sophomore and Maria F. Mastropaolo of Lodi, New Jersey, Outstanding Achievement by a Junior.

The School of Nursing presented awards to the following students: Kyle P. Dineen of Brewster, New York, Outstanding Achievement by a Freshman, Erica A. Bloomberg of Sandy Hook, Outstanding Achievement by a Sophomore and Ali L. Luchini of Branford, Outstanding Achievement by a Junior.

The College of Arts and Sciences presented awards to the following students: Maria R. Dillon of Ridgefield, Outstanding Achievement by a Freshman, Annie V. Warm of Port Jefferson, New York, Outstanding Achievement by a Sophomore and Abigail T. Chase of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Outstanding Achievement by a Junior.

The Division of Student Affairs presented the following awards:

The Outstanding Freshman Award was presented to Austin Calvo of Independence, Oregon. This award is given to a first-year student who has a 3.0 GPA or better, who has engaged in multiple co-curricular experiences, demonstrated personal growth since arriving at the university, and has shown initiative, motivation and potential to impact the Quinnipiac and/or the surrounding community.

The Outstanding Freshman Community Service Award was presented to John A. Cruz of Fairfield. This award is given to a first-year student who has a 3.0 GPA or better and has demonstrated a commitment to volunteer service that impacts the community beyond Quinnipiac.

The Outstanding Sophomore Award was presented to Luna Charles of Brockton, Massachusetts. This award is given to a second-year student who has a 3.25 GPA or better, who has been involved in a student organization, program or cause at Quinnipiac or in the community; evidenced establishment of personal or professional goals through engagement on campus and has begun work on achieving those goals, and evidenced support of others in achieving their potential.

The Outstanding Sophomore Community Service Award was presented to John Khillah of Meriden. This award is given to a second-year student who has a 3.0 GPA or better, and has demonstrated a commitment to volunteer service that impacts the community beyond Quinnipiac.

The Outstanding Junior Award was presented to Ayah M. Galal of Prospect. This award is given to a third-year student who has a 3.25 GPA or better, who has demonstrated leadership in a student organization, program or cause at Quinnipiac or in the community; achieved a personal or professional goal through engagement in co-curricular experiences; evidenced an ability to work well with other and demonstrated strength of character in his or her interactions on campus and in the community.

The Outstanding Junior Community Service Award was presented to Emma G. Regan of Farmingdale, New York. This award is given to a third-year student who has a 3.0 GPA or better and has demonstrated a commitment to volunteer service that impacts the community beyond Quinnipiac.

The Albert H. Jente Prize was presented to Joseph P. Iasso of Port Jefferson, New York. This prize, a silver key in memory of Albert H. Jente, former treasurer of Quinnipiac, is given to a second-year student from the university who has done the most for his or her class through loyalty, cooperation and teamwork.
