Quinnipiac University student recognized as Connecticut’s Student Employee of the Year

HAMDEN, CT — Rachel Reyes, of Somerset, New Jersey, was named the Northeast Association of Student Employment Administrators’ Student Employee of the Year for Connecticut and Regional Co-Student Employee of the Year during a recent virtual celebration that was part of National Student Employment Week. She also was recognized as Quinnipiac University’s Student Employee of the Year.

“I am so honored and grateful for this recognition,” said Reyes, a biology major who worked in the Learning Commons and served as co-president of the Asian Student Alliance at Quinnipiac. “I still can’t believe all of this has happened. I want to thank my supervisors and co-workers for allowing me to grow and explore different opportunities - and for making work fun.”

Student employees were recognized at the event for their dedication and adaptability over the last year.

“To our student employees, this past year we have seen many challenges and together we have endured,” said Nathan Petropoulos, student employment and human resources data assistant. “Your resilience and adaptability have truly been inspiring to watch, as you navigated the transition to remote learning and in many cases remote or hybrid work environments. It is our great privilege to work with you every day and to be able to see you develop into the leaders of tomorrow that we know you are. You play a key role in the success of your fellow Bobcats and the university as a whole and for that, we thank you.”

The selection process for choosing student employee of the year is coordinated each spring by the National Student Employment Association. The award is to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work while attending college.
