Stowaway Kitten Rescued By Hamden Firefighters Ready For Adoption

Fire officials say the kitten, who was found by firefighters in July, has been rehabilitated and "given a clean bill of health."

HAMDEN, CT — A stowaway kitten that was rescued by firefighters earlier this year has been rehabilitated and “given a clean bill of health” and is now up for adoption, the Hamden Professional Firefighters Local 2687 union announced in a post on Facebook Thursday.

The kitten, who was rescued by the crew of station 4, was found by the crew of Rescue 1 that was at Stop & Shop on July 27. The crew was approached by a resident who said a feral cat was in her car.

"The kitten ran underneath Rescue 1 and was unable to be found," the firefighters union wrote in a Facebook post at the time of the incident. “Rescue 1 drove several miles and returned to Station 4."

Then, on July 28, the "on-duty crew at Station 4 was cleaning the apparatus floor, when suddenly a cat ran out from under the stairwell and out the bay door. AGAIN, the cat's whereabouts were unknown.”

"Squad 1, (also out of station 4) had responded to several calls during the day," officials wrote in the post. "The kitten was found under the frame of Squad 1 after starting the engine to respond to another call. Upon return the kitten was captured, cleaned in the sink, and fed.”
