Student Spotlight: Achievements of Hamden Residents

Marking the academic achievements of Hamden residents.

Michelle Maturo achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the Summer 2013 Session, earning a place on the President's List at Goodwin College.

Maturo, a student from Hamden, is one of 224 people to make the List, which is reserved for those with a perfect GPA in at least six enrolled credits. Maturo earned an A in all classes during the Summer Session.

Gibran Okar, a senior from Hamden, has been named to the High Honor Roll for the Fall Term at The Loomis Chaffee School.

Cameron Griffin, the child of Elizbeth P. Griffin of Hamden and a 2011 graduate of Hamden Hall Country Day School, participated in the fall 2013 Bates College Junior Semester Abroad program. Griffin, who is majoring in art and visual culture at Bates, studied in Denmark through Danish Institute for Study Abroad.

Frank Maturo of Hamden, majoring in Communication at Western New England University, has been selected for inclusion in the 2013-2014 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Maturo is one of 30 students from Western New England University who have been selected as national outstanding campus leaders.

The University's nominating committee and editors of the annual directory have included Maturo based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

Malcolm Thomas from Hamden served as an Orientation Leader during the Summer, 2013 orientation sessions for the incoming class of 2017 at Nichols College, in Dudley, Massachusetts. Orientation Leaders introduced new freshman students to Nichols College and the community by leading them through team activities and helping them to assimilate to the college lifestyle.
