Teen Charged In Robbery Of Woman, 85, In Hamden: Police
The woman was robbed while she was putting groceries into her car last month in Hamden. She suffered a fractured shoulder, police said.
HAMDEN, CT — A 16-year-old New Haven resident has been arrested in connection with the robbery and assault of an 85-year-old woman last month in Hamden, according to police.
The teen is accused of driving the stolen vehicle that was used in the robbery that happened at the Hamden Plaza, 2100 Dixwell Ave., on May 17, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
The woman was putting groceries into her vehicle when she was approached from behind by a man who was wearing a facemask.

The man grabbed the shoulder strap of the victim’s purse and she was “violently pulled to the ground,” according to Smith.
Smith said the impact caused physical trauma to the victim, including injuries to her hand, knees and shoulder. She was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where it was determined that she had sustained a fractured shoulder, according to Smith.

The robber stole $70, credit cards and the victim’s house keys, Smith said. He entered a stolen vehicle that sped away from the area.
Detective Joseph Liguori conducted an extensive investigation that led to an arrest warrant for the 16-year-old who was driving the stolen vehicle, according to Smith.
The juvenile was brought to police headquarters on June 16 by a family member and arrested. He was charged with first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny and assault on an elderly person. He was taken to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.
The Meriden Police Department and New Haven Police Department assisted in the investigation, according to Smith.
Police are continuing to investigate the robbery.
