Twice in Two Days, New Haven Teen Facing Stolen Motor Vehicle Charges

A New Haven teen was arrested two times in two days on stolen motor vehicle charges.

Sunday evening at about 5:45 p.m. Officer Shawn Nutcher saw a stolen motor vehicle traveling on Goodrich Street, according to Hamden Police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. 

When Nutcher stopped the car on Dudley Street, the driver immediately took off, Smith said. After a brief pursuit, Nutcher was able to capture and arrest him, Smith said.

The suspect, a 16 year-old New Haven resident, was charged with third-degree larceny and interfering with a police officer. He is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Jan. 14 and was released to the custody of a family member, Smith said.

But it wasn't the first time the teen was arrested, Smith said.

"The same juvenile was arrested on Jan. 10 for attempting to steal a motor vehicle that was parked in the parking lot of Hamden High School," Smith said. 

Then, he was charged with criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace.

Officer Robert O’Neill conducted the earlier investigation, Smith said.
