Two Arrests for Attempted Break-Ins

The two New Haven residents were found hiding in the area of the Hamden Mart, according to police.

Two New Haven residents were arrested early Monday morning after they were found hiding in the area of the Hamden Mart.

At about 1:30 a.m., Hamden Police got a report of suspicious activity at the Gulf Service Station at 2420 Dixwell Ave., according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith.

Someone at the station reported seeing two people hiding in the area, Smith said.

"Upon arrival, officers observed that a large side window had been damaged by two pieces of broken asphalt," Smith said in a release Wednesday. Officers determined that the station hadn't been entered, he said.

"Moments later, officers, with the assistance of the concerned citizen, located the individuals responsible, hiding in bushes behind the Hamden Mart," Smith said.

Police arrested Lamont Keys, 18, of 93 Lilac Street, New Haven, and a 17-year-old New Haven resident, Smith said. Both were charged with criminal attempt to commit third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief. 

Keys was held in lieu of $5,000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 21. 

The 17 year-old New Haven resident is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on Jan. 21.

Officer Justin Martin conducted the investigation, Smith said.
