Woman Dragged 40 Feet By Purse Snatchers In Parking Lot: Police

HAMDEN, CT — A woman was dragged for nearly 40 feet while she was being robbed of her purse in the Stop & Shop parking lot Wednesday night in Hamden, according to police.

The robbery happened around 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot at 2335 Dixwell Ave., according to police Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said the victim, a 63-year-old Hamden resident, was putting groceries inside her vehicle when a 2012 black Hyundai Tucson approached her.

The rear passenger got out of the stolen vehicle and tried to grab her purse. After grabbing the purse, the robber got back into the stolen vehicle which sped away, according to Smith.

Smith said the victim had her arm stuck in the purse strap and was dragged alongside the SUV for nearly 40 feet. The victim, who fell to the pavement, told police she wasn’t injured.

The stolen vehicle was recovered around 1:30 p.m., according to Smith. No further information was immediately available.
