CARES Act Funding No-Cost Nursing Course At MCC

MANCHESTER, CT — Funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, is allowing Manchester Community College to offer a special accelerated, non-credit Certified Nurse Aid course.

The six-week course is being offered at no cost to students.

The course is slated to start Oct. 5 and run through Nov. 11.

Books and other course-related expenses — including three sessions of labs at MCC and 16 hours of clinical work at Woodlake at Tolland, a 130-bed, skilled nursing home and short-term rehabilitation facility – are also covered by the CARES Act funding.

The course is designed to prepare students with entry-level skills to serve as a CNA in long-term care facilities, hospitals, clinics and via home health agencies.

To be eligible, students must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED, and their employment must have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

All classes are being offered online, except for the lab and clinical work, which will be conducted under strict virus protocols.
