Downtown Manchester Searching for New Christmas Tree

Since Hurricane Sandy left the traditional downtown Manchester Christmas tree short last season - about 15 feet short, to be exact - a search for a replacement tree in time for the 2013 holiday season is rapidly and readily underway. 

Damage to the tree, which had been a staple on the lawn of St. James Church church for years, was so extensive that it had to be cut down earlier this year, and now the Downtown Manchester Special Services District is in search of a new tree to replant on the site in time for the holidays. 

"The hunt is on," Downtown Manager Tana Parseliti said in a release. "With the arrival of the fall planting season, the Downtown District is in need of a new tree to light up the historic town center and continue the tradition of the Annual Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting. It is seeking a live evergreen of the spruce variety that is approx. 15 to 20 feet tall.

The tree could come from a grower or a homeowner that has a large tree they would like to have removed from their yard. The District is hopeful that someone will have a tree that meets the height and variety specifications and that they might be willing to donate it."
