Driver Killed In I-84 Crash Near Manchester/East Hartford Line

MANCHESTER/EAST HARTFORD, CT — A Monday morning crash involving a tractor-trailer and a compact sedan took the life of a 39-year-old Bristol woman, state police said.

According to a crash report, the accident took place at 3:50 a.m, near Exit 58 on the westbound side of the highway and traffic was backed up into Manchester well into the morning commute.

The truck was in the center lane and was hit from behind by a 2001 Honda Civic, according to a crash report.

The driver of the Honda, Iris Maldonado, was taken to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries and later pronounced dead, according to a crash report.

State police are still investigating the crash and any witnesses can contact Trooper First Class John Wilson at 860-534-1098 or John.wilson@ct.gov. State police said they are especially interested in reviewing dashboard camera footage.

The truck driver, a 63-yer-old man from Worcester, MA, refused medical attention at the scene, according to a crash report.
