East Catholic High School Earns Fifth Sportsmanship Award

East Catholic High School has been awarded its fifth Michael's Cup for sportsmanship achievements

East Catholic High School has been awarded its fifth Michael’s Cup for sportsmanship achievements during the 2017-2018 academic year. East Catholic was honored at the CIAC Sportsmanship Conference at the Aqua Turf in Southington.

The Michaels Achievement Cup program was created in the 1980s to recognize impressive middle and high school athletic programs. The goal of the award is to encourage schools and students to practice sportsmanship. To be considered, schools must be a part of the Class Act Program and demonstrate how they showcase sportsmanship through their athletics.

“The award embodies our school’s mission and values that revolve around developing students’ strong moral character while they pursue academic excellence,” says Jon Dahlquist, East Catholic’s Dean of Wellness and Athletics. “Our student athletes are performing at high levels, and they are doing it with sportsmanship.” An overwhelming number of East Catholic students (84 percent) participate in sport-related activities.
